Gauteng police arrested more than 50 people in the Cullinan area at the beginning of July.
Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said this was part of the ongoing Operation Okae Molao throughout the province in which 897 suspects have been arrested and have since appeared in court in the province.
“We have (in the Cullinan area) closed three unlicensed taverns and all the alcohol was seized.”
According to Masondo, one person was arrested for possession of an unlicensed gun and more than three cars were identified stolen.
Masondo said this operation focused on areas that residents complained the police had neglected.
“It was a surprise operation and that is why we did extremely well,” said Masondo.
He said the community should not give crime prevention wardens money for doing their jobs because the premier is paying them enough.
Officials from the Department of Home Affairs were part of the operation and 55 undocumented residents were arrested.
Two people were arrested for possession of drugs and one for dealing drugs.
“I am happy that all law enforcers came to show the community of Cullinan that they do care and to send a strong message to the criminals to never think that they are having it all,” said Ward 100 Clr Johannes Bekker.
