Bank officials alert Standerton police during questionable loan application
The officials from the bank decided to contact Standerton Police after realising that something about the applicant was not adding up.
Standerton SAPS arrested seven suspects for fraud on July 20 after allegedly trying to defraud a bank.
According to a statement from the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, a woman applied for a loan of about R200 000 at a financial institution.
She allegedly produced fraudulent documents, including a bank statement, which is a prerequisite for the loan she was applying for.
While making this application, the woman was allegedly conniving with six accomplices. While bank officials were verifying her details, one suspect confirmed she was an employee of a certain company.

One bank official became suspicious and noticed something was questionable about her application. The other suspects, allegedly working with her, waited outside the bank for her.
The officials from the bank contacted Standerton Police after realising something about the applicant was not adding up.
After the SAPS conducted their investigations, they apprehended all seven suspects. The suspects initially attempted to evade the arrest by fleeing.

Altogether, nine cellphones, five wallets, two motor vehicles, as well as other items such as identification documents and driver’s licences, were seized for further investigation.
The suspects will appear in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on July 24. According to information from the police, the Standerton area previously had incidents of fraud.
They could not rule out the possibility that charges could be added as the investigation continues.
The provincial commissioner of the SAPS, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, welcomed the arrest and applauded the bank officials for their actions.
