Heater might have caused house fire in Bronkhorstspruit
The owner of the house is thankful that her relatives were not injured.
The Shabangu family lost everything when a fire destroyed their house on Sara Avenue in Bronkhorstspruit on July 19.
They suspect a heater has caused the fire, which originated in the mother’s bedroom. The family took their groceries into the house when they noticed the flames.
Everyone ran out to seek help, but the fire rapidly spread across the house. Neighbours rushed to help extinguish the fire with water and sand until the fire department arrived.
Nothing helped and they could not control the blaze. Firefighters doused the blaze, but by then everything was already destroyed.
Nomsa Shabangu is the house owner and also a relative of the woman and her two adult children, ages 22 and 20, living in the house.

“I am just thankful the fire injured no one. Things are bad, but it could have been worse,” she said.

This is the second house of which Streeknuus is aware that burnt down in Bronkhorstspruit during July.
Streeknuus also last week reported on a house that burnt down on Second Avenue on July 8 where Collin and Yanke Brits and their children were left homeless.
They suspected a faulty extension to have caused the fire.
