Stock theft on rise in eMbalenhle

The complainant took 10 heads of cattle to graze in a pasture but when he returned in the afternoon, three were missing.

Stock theft is on the rise in the eMbalenhle policing precinct.

The police opened a stock theft case after a small-scale farmer reported three missing cattle on August 8.

According to Constable Busi Mthethwa, the eMbalenhle police spokesperson, the complainant took 10 heads of cattle to graze in a pasture next to the old Middelbult Mine. When he returned in the afternoon, three were missing.

In another case, someone stole five sheep from a kraal.

According to Mthethwa, the complainant put all his sheep in the kraal before he went to bed. The following morning, when he opened the kraal, it was empty. He inspected it and found a cut fence, bent open corrugated iron, and blood stains.

Mthethwa said no arrests had yet been made.
