The Mpumalanga police celebrated its provincial Women’s Day at Lillian Ngoyi Centre on August 9, under the theme Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality.

According to Mpumalanga police commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela, by celebrating the day they recognised women and girls who are championing the advancement of transformative technology and digital education.

Manamela said such women send a message that they will not be intimidated and silenced by the unjust laws.

Police women sing and dance at the Lillian Ngoyi Centre in Secunda in celebration of Women’s Day.

“There is a phrase. ‘Wathint’abafazi, Wathinti’mbokodo’, which means if you touch a woman, you touch a rock.”

Manamela said although women are described as rocks, there are some who are daily being abused by men.

“While we are commemorating Women’s Day, there is still much to be done in the fight against women and child abuse.

Manamela also told women to stop being jealous of each other’s success.
