Secunda man’s case postpone while he still waits for evaluation at Weskoppies
Phillip O'Neill (71) remains in custody after the Delmas Court postponed the murder case to October 10, due to the delay in admission for his evaluation at Weskoppies Hospital.
A Secunda man, Phillip O’Neill (71), facing charges of murder, appeared in the Delmas High Court on August 21, where the matter was postponed to October 10.
O’Neill will remain in custody.
It would appear that the delay in the process is clarity on the procedures between Weskoppies Hospital and the respective health departments.
The deputy of state prosecution, who has made this matter of high priority, is working with the CEO of Weskoppies to find a solution.

O’Neill, who is being evaluated for dementia, is on trial for the murder of wife, Hester O’Neill (49), on the night of June 1 last year.
It is alleged an argument ensued at about 22:35 on the night of the murder between the couple at their home in Brandspruit Street in Secunda.
According to police reports, Hester allegedly told O’Neill she wanted to leave him. The police report stated she was shot in the back of her neck.
She was certified dead on the scene.
