Kitten at Wet Nose makes astounding recovery

Wet Nose Animal shelter saved the life of a helpless kitten in Cullinan.

Mauzer is an adorable little kitten rescued by Wet Nose near Cullinan Primary School. When the Wet Nose team first found him living on the streets, he weighed less than 1kg.

Upon closer examination, his rescuers noticed a fracture on his front left distal humerus bone, and amputating his front left leg was inevitable.

For Doctor Suene Bartie to do the operation on him safely, they needed him to weigh at least 1.3kg.

Inspector Chanell Theart cared for him day in and day out, making sure he picked up weight and his leg was not placed under further strain.

After six weeks of nurturing and constantly monitoring Mauzer, he gained enough weight to undergo surgery.

“Here is the miraculous part,” said Theart. “The X-ray showed a hard callus formed around the break. It was like his leg grew back.”

It overjoyed the Wet Nose team to discover they did not need to amputate, and Mauzer could use his leg without worry.

“We shall continue to monitor him, but for now, he can come home and enjoy his time with his family,” said Theart.

Mauzer and Theart fell in love with each other on this road to recovery. She took little Mauzer home, showed him off to the rest of the family and was instantly loved by all.

“Mauzer’s story is a true testament to the power of resilience and love, and they could not be prouder of him and more grateful for such a miracle,” said Theart.
