Standerton municipal manager denies poor water quality
According to Lamola, no sediment was visible and the colour was clear, contrary to the pictures received from the community.

Some residents in mid-town were aghast at the quality of their water supply the past week and posted their grievances on social media with accompanying photos.
They also shared their dissatisfaction with the Lekwa Municipality, who provided feedback in a letter dated September 18.
Malosi Lamola, municipal manager (MM), said in the letter they investigated the Standerton Water Treatment Plant on the same day they received the complaint and said it was not as poor as reports showed.
According to Lamola, no sediment was visible and the colour was clear, contrary to the pictures received from the community.

The investigation at the reservoir resulted in the same conclusion. The MM said Lekwa is flushing the fire hydrants and scouring valves to clean the pipes.
According to Lamola, they decided on a medium-term intervention.
They will refurbish the plant by ministerial intervention of the Department of Water and Sanitation through the Gert Sibande District Municipality.
Lamola cautioned residents in August to boil water for consumption. According to him, the Standerton Water Treatment Plant’s limited capacity against the demand exceeds the design capacity, resulting in microbiological failures in the water.
