Radio Flyers enjoy a day of float flying near Delmas
Various-sized aircraft took part, and the pilots evaluated their take-off and landing skills on clean and clear water.
Members of the Irene Radio Flyers Club visited Tapkar near Delmas for a day of fun. They gathered at the Tapkar dam for their annual float-flying event on October 21 and 22.
According to event co-ordinator Chris Oosthuizen, float flying at the Irene Flying Club is a popular event on the annual programme.
After a safety briefing, the pilots started flying their programme in windy conditions.
“The pilots did not hesitate to test their flying skills to the fullest.”
Various-sized aircraft took part, and the pilots evaluated their take-off and landing skills on clean and clear water.
Oosthuizen said a radio-controlled float-flying aircraft is similar to a full-sized aircraft with floats.
“Although the wind blew strong, 16 pilots enjoyed the ideal conditions of the dam at Tapkar and the hospitality of the staff members. I am glad I discovered Tapkar and can only say it is ideal for float flying,” Oosthuizen added.
“The premises supported their requirements, and the members enjoyed the cleanliness and water levels of the Tapkar Dam,” Oosthuizen concluded.
