Rugby boys of Hoërskool Standerton go on tour to Ireland

They not only made their hometown proud, but the country as representatives from South Africa.

Rugby players from Hoërskool Standerton, representing Margate Sports School U19, departed on December 5 for Ireland.

Players across South Africa made up the team. The Standerton players in the team were Sandile Sima Motha, Phila Tlou, Siyandiswa Mahlangu, Bradly Blom (coach), Arno Bosman, Sphiwe Kuhle Mtshiselwa and Talha Jina.

Balbriggan RC in Dublin hosted an attractive rugby event, entertaining the spectators. The boys were also treated to a post-match meal and chat with the hosting team and their families.

According to information, great friendships were formed. Braving the cold, wet conditions the boys drove to Limerick for the second match against Shannon RFC.

One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to the Rugby Academy of Ireland where the boys enjoyed a training session with Dan van Zyl.

Their final match was in the city of Cork against Carrick on Suir RFC. They fought hard in the mud, losing to a last-minute penalty kick by the opponents.

The score was 3 – 0 full-time.

The team also visited tourist attractions and museums, including Croke Park Stadium, Carlingford Adventure Centre and the Cliffs of Moher, made famous by Harry Potter and the Hobbit series.

They not only made their hometown proud but the country as representatives from South Africa.

The boys and their parents thanked everyone who sponsored them and played a part in making the tour possible.
