Metro Police take action on illegal dumping in Cullinan

Roadside workers cleaned the R513 and R515.

Roadside cleaners began to clear the roads along the R513 and R515 that run through Ward 100 on January 15.

During the festive season, residents and visitors in Ward 100 illegally dumped their refuse along the main routes and at hot spots. As the population rapidly increases, societies must find more efficient solutions to control waste. Excess litter and refuse pose a threat to the environment.

Illegal dumping and littering are two top contributors to pollution in rivers, public spaces and the countryside.
Keeping the environment clean is a collective responsibility everyone shares.

Each person has a role to play in protecting the environment from pollution. Communities need to eradicate litter and avoid irresponsible waste disposal practices immediately.

Ward 100 Lr Johannes Bekker said, “There is no excuse for plastic waste in the environment because it must always be recycled and thrown away responsibly.”

Make a point to find out more about what can and can’t be recycled, and start separating at home. Plastic is a valuable resource that is too important to dump and never reuse.

Bekker emphasized the need to reduce, reuse and recycle waste wherever possible.

“This will keep litter out of the environment. Every resident needs to take responsibility for their waste and disposal habits,” said Bekker.

In the hot spots, culprits will receive fines for dumping illegally, and the Metro Police are investigating those residents who were reported.
