Two For Joy School League beginning soon in Standerton

Two for Joy has supported students to register at the tertiary level, bought laptops, uniforms and stationery.

The launch of the Two for Joy School League took place at the Standerton Town Hall the past week.

Attendees included a representative from the office of the MEC of the Department of Sports Arts and Culture, MMC Banana Moloi from Gert Sibande District Municipality, Delani Louis Thabethe executive mayor of the Lekwa Municipality, Oliver Phiri speaker, Dumisani Msibi the chief whip, MMCs of the council, Themba Ndhlovu circuit manager, members and former members of Two for Joy, school principals, Sadtu leadership and Naptosa leadership.

Two for Joy was established in 1995 by the late Doctor Mkhondwane, initially as a football club.

The organisation invited its former members, who were the brains behind the now bigger and stronger institution.

Sipho Mkhwanazi, chairperson, delivers his speech.

They then grew not only to play soccer but identified a need to assist poor community members, especially focusing on education.

Two for Joy has supported students to register at the tertiary level and bought laptops, uniforms and stationery.

They recently adopted Khula-Sakhile Secondary School and Jandrell Secondary School to support them with school camps, motivation and buying uniforms for learners.

They have also budgeted to build or fix ablution facilities for schools in the rural areas.

According to the chairperson, children are consumed by drugs and part of the problem is there are few extra-mural activities, if any, at schools.

A need was seen to resuscitate school sports, not only to deal with social ills but to help learners realise that sport is a career.

The programme focuses on high schools this year and aims to expand to primary schools next year.

There will be a Wafa Wafa/Wayeka Wayeka-tournament in February, sponsored by Levay, as a build-up to the league where the winning school will be awarded soccer and netball kits and prize money.

Masintle Molefe receives proof of payment for registration with Mancosa from Belinda Tilly Mkhwanazi, treasurer.

Seriti committed itself to donate jerseys/kits for all the participating schools, as well as price money, to be used for projects that the winning school and its runner-ups will identify.

Ivati has committed to be the official sponsor for water for the duration of the league.

Lekwa will ensure the soccer fields, and halls are made available.

The Pitso Mosimane Academy was invited to scout talent and promote the boys and girls.

Ex-professional players were also invited to assist the schools without coaches, and they obtained the services of local referees. These referees will be paid a stipend to make sure games are at a professional level, without cheating.

Both secondary and primary schools were invited to design a trophy and the winner will receive R5 000.

The club thanked its sponsors, Seriti, Ivati, Levay, Kgatelopelo, TMT, Kjos and Lekwa Municipality.

They hope to produce the next players for Bafana Bafana and the South African Netball Team.
