Murder case against Evander farmers is again postponed

Farmer Abraham de la Rey (52), farm manager Arthur Underhay (39) and farm worker Elfast Hlatshwayo (47) appeared in court on April 25

The Evander Magistrate’s Court again postponed the murder case against farmer Abraham de la Rey (52), farm manager Arthur Underhay (39) and farm worker Elfast Hlatshwayo (47) on April 25.

Hlatshwayo was arrested months after De la Rey and Underhay, who face charges of murder, violating a corpse, defeating the course of justice and intimidation.

Hlatshwayo was released on warning, but the other two remain in custody.

The SAPS arrested them regarding the disappearance of Sthembiso Mnikathi (33) and Buhlebuyeza Ximba (35).

At the time of their disappearance, the men were part of a hunting party on De la Rey’s farm.

The Evander SAPS later found a brain in a shallow grave and blood on the farm.

According to testimony from investigation officer Warrant Officer Stephen Tshehla during the bail hearing, test results on the brain were inconclusive.

However, the blood DNA matches that of Ximba and Mnikati.

The police have still not found the men’s remains.

De la Rey and Underhay are appealing their bail denial. The case was postponed to May 27.
