eMzinoni police find charred remains of baby
Eyewitnesses saw an African man dumping the contents of a plastic bag into a trench next to the road.
Police in eMzinoni are investigating a disturbing case involving the charred remains of a baby. Officers on duty on April 4 were alerted at about 10:00 by members of the community to the gruesome discovery on 8th Street.
According to eMzinoni police spokesperson Sergeant Cynthia Mtshweni, eyewitnesses saw an African man dumping the contents of a plastic bag into a trench next to the road.
“He then set it alight. The man was seen stirring the fire until everything was burned. He made sure everything was burnt before leaving.
“People walking past the burn site then noticed it was the body of a baby and alerted the police.”
Mtshweni said the police are currently treating the matter as an inquest. The identity of the child is still unknown.
“We need the community’s help with the investigation and to identify the child. Anyone with information about a missing child aged two years or younger is urged to contact the police,” said Mtshweni.
