Standerton CrossFit athletes join Africa’s top 30 teams

Four of The Shed compete at highest level.

The road to the CrossFit semi-finals for The Shed in Standerton began in February, when the world’s elite athletes lined up for the CrossFit Open.

What started as a global test of fitness quickly narrowed down to a fierce continental battle.

Following the Open, the pressure intensified during a gruelling four-workout qualifier designed to separate the contenders from the hobbyists.

Through every heavy lift and high-intensity sprint, Hannes van der Westhuizen, Janiene Martin, Jacqueline Smit, and Gary van Aswegen demonstrated the grit required to compete at the highest level.

Their consistency paid off, earning them a prestigious 11th place out of the top 30 qualifying teams in Africa.

Now, the focus shifts to the Sandton Convention Centre from May 21 to 24.

As one of the premier teams on the continent, The Shed athletes are no longer just competing against the clock; they are representing their community on the big stage.

With the semi-final events looming, the team is entering their final phase of preparation, ready to prove that its 11th-place seed was just the beginning of its climb to the top.
