Family appeals for help as Sakhile teen awaits life-saving kidney transplant

The family of 16-year-old Kwanda Sibeko in Sakhile is appealing to businesses, community members and other potential donors for financial assistance to help cover the costs associated with a potential kidney transplant.

According to Kwanda’s mother, Innocent Sibeko, their earlier appeal for a kidney donor received an overwhelming response, with several people volunteering to be tested.

The family has now identified a potential donor who will undergo compatibility blood tests with Kwanda.

The tests are scheduled to take place on August 13 and 14.

If the donor is found to be a suitable match, Kwanda will be able to proceed with the life-saving kidney transplant.

However, Sibeko said the family is facing a financial challenge because the costs related to the donor’s medical assessment are not covered by their medical aid.

“As we prepare to travel with the donor for blood tests that will be conducted, we are experiencing financial difficulties.

“We need assistance to cover transport, accommodation and the donor’s medical expenses during the testing period,” said Sibeko.

She appealed to businesses, organisations and members of the public to support the family in ensuring Kwanda receives the transplant.

“We are appealing for help from businesses and the community to ensure that Kwanda gets the transplant.

Any contribution, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated,” said Sibeko.
