Members of the Sakhile SAPS dedicated their 67 minutes for Mandela Day by cleaning and maintaining the Sakhile Police Station on July 17.

In a show of unity and teamwork, officers temporarily exchanged their blue uniforms for overalls as they worked together to clean both the inside and outside of the station.

The initiative involved everyone, from station management to junior members, who joined hands to ensure the police station was thoroughly cleaned and well maintained.

The project was initiated by the Sakhile SAPS management as part of the annual Mandela Day commemorations while also encouraging teamwork among members. The initiative received overwhelming support from officers across the station.

Sakhile SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Themba Mnisi said that while the station usually focuses its Mandela Day activities on assisting the community, this year members decided to improve their own working environment.

“Most of the time, as Sakhile SAPS, during this period we focus more on assisting the community.

“This year we decided to improve our working environment, as the saying goes, ‘Charity begins at home.’ We, as the Sakhile SAPS family, are happy with the results. Let us keep the spirit of unity alive,” said Mnisi.

Mnisi said the clean-up campaign reflected the values of Mandela Day by promoting service, responsibility and teamwork, while creating a cleaner and more welcoming environment for both police members and the community they serve.
