Herewith I, on behalf of a custodian and a political party that upholds as well as defend the National Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, Cope, congratulates the police in Mpumalanga for securing a conviction of a serial rapist.
According to the Mpumalanga provincial police spokesman, Col Leonard Hlathi, the 33-year-old man faced nearly 30 cases of rape, over 20 of kidnapping, six of robbery, one of attempted rape as well as a murder case.
The Secunda Regional Court in the Eastern Highveld of Mpumalanga convicted the man on 48 of the above charges most of which were rapes and he is scheduled to be sentenced in April.
The National Constitution of South Africa and the Criminal Procedure Act recognise rape, murder, attempted murder, attempted rape and kidnappings as some of the most violent crimes in the country.
It must be kept in mind that before the police could link the man to any of the crimes, they had to do what can be described as a starling police detective work in order to produce positive results.
As Cope we commend the police and the state for securing the conviction of one of the most dangerous men in our society.
Our Cope Mpumalanga Premier Candiate, Mr Sizile Ndlovu, said: “It could not be that our sisters, mothers and children had to suffer life-long traumas as a result of this man’s horrible acts.”
He also said the conviction means the man might be permanently removed from society so that the people of the country can live in harmony without him.
For Cope the safety of South Africans who always suffer in the hands of ruthless criminals, is one of the most important factors that are expected for a better future for all.
Riot Hlatshwayo, Head of Communications for Cope in Mpumalanga.
