Sasol Marathon Club encourages women to take on long-distance running
The club plans to strengthen its training programme by focusing on endurance, running techniques and race preparation.
The Sasol Marathon Club is encouraging more women to participate in long-distance running as part of preparations for the prestigious Comrades Marathon.
The club made the call during its photo shoot and team performance analysis session held at the Sasol Club in Secunda on August 1.
Speaking during the event, club chairperson July Mavuso said the performance review highlighted both achievements and areas that require improvement.
“Although many of our members successfully complete the Comrades Marathon, our analysis has identified gaps where we need to improve,” said Mavuso.

“We have realised there is a need to intensify performance training, teach proper techniques for running long distances and educate runners on what they need to do before and during long-distance races,” said Mavuso.
Mavuso encouraged more women to join the club and embrace long-distance running, saying the club is committed to supporting them throughout their journey.
“We encourage women to participate in long-distance running, and we will guide them every step of the way. What is most encouraging is that our female runners are already finishing marathons. They now need to build their self-confidence and believe in their abilities,” he said.
The club believes that with consistent training, mentorship and confidence-building, more women will be able to compete successfully in long-distance races, including the Comrades Marathon.
