The Sakhile Rehabilitation Centre extended gratitude to the Standerton Advertiser for responding on 19 July to their launch invitation.
The centre had 20 registered recovering addicts and after the article was published on 28 July, an additional 13 have registered for the programme, with other promising to come.
“Since the article, we have had numerous calls from mothers, fathers and family members, asking us to help their children,” Ms Nhlanhla Mollo said.
Ms Mollo and her family members decided to open the facility after recognising the need in the community.
According to her, the centre was operational for two days a week, but the patients have requested that the facility be open seven days a week.
“It is really not by might or power, but the grace of God and we pray He helps us further.”
The centre is currently funded from their own pockets and they appealed to to businesses, government and the public at large for assistance.
The patients are given counselling twice a week.
They are also taught sowing to enhance their chances of earning a living and becoming positive members of society.
The centre also offers drama sessions and patients participate in sport and enjoy a home-cooked meal.
