Govan Mbeki honours top clubs
Mayoral Cup promotes sport and nurture talent of young people.
SECUNDA – Clubs that won in the annual Mayoral Cup were honoured at a prize-giving ceremony at the Johannes Stegmann Theatre on Friday, 20 June.
The tournament was part the Govan Mbeki Municipality initiative to promote sport and nurture the talent of young people in the area.
The prizes were R7 000, tracksuits and a kit for the winners, R5 000 for the second position and R2 000 for third position in all sporting codes.
Real Madrid FC from eMzinoni won the men’s soccer, Macerdonia FC from eMbalenhle was second and Roman Stars FC from Kinross was third.
Kinross Netball Club won the netball, West United Netball Club from eMbalenhle was second and Juventus Netball Club from eMbalenhle was third.
Prizes were awarded to first and second positions in the other sporting codes because not many clubs took part.
Leandra Stars FC from Lebohang won the women’s soccer and eMbalenhle Ladies FC came second.
Bethal Pumas was first in the men’s volley ball and Bethal Tornados came second.
Bethal Young Keens won the women’s volley ball and Bethal Zandile Stars was second.
Mzinoni Rugby Club was first in the men’s rugby and Crusaders was second.
Crusaders won the women’s rugby and Mzinoni Rugby Club was second.
