Safa improves standard of refereeing
Course forms part of the association’s development agency that is sponsored by Sasol.
eMBALENHLE – The South African Football Association (Safa) in the Gert Sibande Region held a course for referees to improve their standard of refereeing in the lower leagues on 14 to 18 July.
It was conducted under the guidance of Messrs Nkululeko Ndzekeni and Steven Nkutha, regional instructors, and more than 20 referees between the ages of 18 and 25 across the region took part.
Mr Ndzekeni said their aim is to improve the standard of match officiating at the lower level.
“We are focusing mainly on young and promising referees.
“We need fresh blood that will come through the ranks, because our main focus now is the development of young referees.”
The course also formed part of the association’s development agency that is sponsored by Sasol.
The sponsorship to the local football associations in the Gert Sibande and Fezile Dabi regions is worth R3-million.
The agency is tasked with implementing Safa’s technical master plan called Vision 2022.
The plan aims at lifting South Africa’s national soccer teams into the top three in Africa and the top 20 in the world by 2022.
