Competitors take to the skies in Secunda

The course was around 138nm (nautical miles). Competitors had to go through 10 turn points.

HIGHVELD – Clear skies, perfect weather and great flying were at the order of the day when 23 pilots and navigators took to the skies at the Secunda Flying Club on Saturday, 12 September.

This formed part of the South African Power Flying Association’s (SAPFA) Speed Rally where competitors were scored on accuracy, speed and best route used.

The course was around 138nm (nautical miles). Competitors had to go through 10 turn points.

For the final overall handicap classification, Hendrik Loots and navigator Jandré Loots came in first place.

Second place went to Eugene van Staden and navigator Manaf Mubarak.

Third place went to Leon Joubert and navigator Sandi Goddard.

Pilot Johan Botha navigator Frikkie van Heerden took forth place, while Apie Kotzee and navigator Frederik Kotzee came in fifth place.

In the final overall track accuracy classification, pilot Hendrik Loots and navigator Jandré Loots took first place.

Quintin Kruger and navigator Johan Whiteman came in second.

Third place went to pilot Phil Wakeley and navigator Mary De klerk.

Ryan Shillaw and navigator Chris Shillaw came in fourth, with Apie Kotzee and navigator Frederik Kotzee coming in at fifth place.
