Eddie Daniel from Ermelo lives and breathes golf

Daniel said he liked challenging himself on the golf course, and enjoys the open air and the elements.

Eddie Daniel began playing golf at the age of 15 and is still often swinging his way to victory on several golf courses countrywide.

In his young days at school level, he participated in athletics, tennis, rugby and swimming, however, now his hobbies are playing golf and fishing.

He taught himself how to play the game and claims to never have had a golf lesson in his life.

Accomplishments that stand out for him, include winning the Kenya Open Golf Tournament and being selected for the South African Country District team with his son, Gary Daniel.

He said: “Being the only father and son to accomplish this feat, felt phenomenal.”

He recently also won the Mpumalanga “Race to 21” golf competition that was played over the past six months on various courses.

Daniel said he liked challenging himself on the golf course, and enjoys the open air and the elements.

“Every time you step onto a golf course, it is a challenge.”

The format ‘match play’ is his favourite, being a format where a golfer plays against an opponent on a hole-to-hole basis.

“You win a hole from your opponent by playing one stroke less on the specific hole.

“The match is played over 18 holes and if you are five holes up on the opponent, with four holes to go, you have won the match five and four.”

He concluded: “I am fanatical about the game of golf.”

Evidently so, as he also gives golf lessons in his free time.

You’ll be sure to see Daniels enjoying a round of golf at the Ermelo Country Club from time to time.
