Sport organisations host vax campaign
They conveyed the message that vaccination was the only way through which sport events could go back to normal and people can again attend big games.
South African Organisation for the Prevention of HIV/Aids ( SAOPHA) and MAVU Sports Development held a youth vaccination campaign at eMbalenhle Sasol Club on Saturday, October 30.
According to Mr Vusi Mkhwanazi, the organiser said the purpose of the campaign is encourage the youth to get vaccinated.
He said they saw a need as sports organisers and leaders to assist the government to reach young people through sports.
“We decided to use two sport codes such as soccer and netball because we know many of our young people in our townships follow them.
“We managed to reach as many young people as we could and told them about the importance of vaccinations,” said Mr Mkhwanazi.
They conveyed the message that vaccination was the only way through which sport events could go back to normal and people can again attend big games.
“Currently, no one is allowed to watch their team competing because of the pandemic in our country but we hope that if we all are vaccinated then everything will go back to normal,” said Mr Mkhwanazi.
The four netball teams that participated in the campaign are Agitator Netball Club that beat All the Glory Netball Club by 11-8, and Sasol Juventus Netball Club beat the Red Straws Netball Club by 14-09.
Sasol Juventus Netball Club won their tournament and were awarded with soccer kits and gold medals, other clubs that participated in the campaign were also awarded.
