Big cash prizes are up for grabs in this angling competition at Unicor Dam, Evander

The angler in the senior division who catches the largest carp will be rewarded with R5 000. However, if that carp weighs more than 10kg, the prize money will double to R10 000.

Big cash prizes are up for grabs in the Park Lifting angling competition at the Unicor Dam on June 11.

The angler in the senior division who catches the largest carp will be rewarded with R5 000. However, if that carp weighs more than 10kg, the prize money will double to R10 000.

The runner-up will receive R3 000 in prize money and the third-place winner gets R2 000.

The prize money for the biggest barber in the senior division (anglers older than 12 years) is R2 500.

The second prize is R1 500 and the third prize is R1 000.

Even the smallest fish gets a cash prize of R500.

Children young than 12 years will also have a chance to compete for prize money.

In this division, the kids who caught the 10 biggest fish, immaterial of species, will receive money.

There will also be lucky draws throughout the day. For only R10, you will be entered into all of the lucky draws.

The entry fee is R200 per adult (anyone older than 12 years) and R100 for children younger than 12. Entrants will each be allowed to use two fishing rods.

The competition will take place on the side of the farmer and the stands will be determined with a draw.

The gates open at 06:00 and the competition begins at 07:00. Weigh-in is at 15:00.

Participants must take along enough cash on that day, because card facilities will not be available.

Remember that there will be a food stall selling burgers at R25 each, wors rolls at R20, pancakes at R5 each, coffee and rusks at R15 and also cool drinks.

Park Lifting is hosting this competition in aid of Feral Watch & TNR, an animal welfare organisation focused on curbing feral cat populations through trapping and neutering feral cats and then returning them to their colonies. This also helps to monitor the well-being of feral colonies.

Feral Watch & TNR is also involved with other animal organisations and helps wherever there is a need.

The management of Park Lifting decided to support Feral Watch & TNR because the organisation makes such a huge difference in the area and their work comes with a huge financial burden.

All proceeds from the angling competition and food sales will be donated to Feral Watch & TNR.

“People always forget about the cats and the impact it has on people who want help, such as Feral Watch,” said Tamsyn Nel from Park Lifting.

She will have a donation station on the day of the competition, where anyone can donate cat food, dog food, blankets and even money towards Feral Watch & TNR.

To book your tickets for the angling competitions, contact Herman on 083 321 8173 or Frans on 082 900 2563.

If you are not able to attend the day, but you wish to donate to Feral Watch & TNR, contact Tamsyn at 079 502 2697.
