Buys and Lill win race in Trailseeker series
The King Price Trailseeker Series is the biggest mountain bike series worldwide and caters for both novice and professional athletes.
The fourth event in the King Price Trailseeker MTB Series took place at Legends MX, Rhino Park, on Saturday, June 25.
“The weather was tough. Because of severe rainfall the night before, we were compelled to shorten the 70km route to join the 40km route to avoid unrideable sections due to an excessive amount of clay-based mud.
“All other distances remained the same. We still had a great turnout of gutsy riders who pitched up to affirm their toughness in the cold and wet conditions,” explained race director JP Nortje.
The winner of the King Price Trailseeker Legends MX Elite Men is Philip Buys with a time of 01:32:45.
Gert Heyns clinched a silver medal with a time of 01:33:10 and Wessel Botha was rewarded with a bronze medal with a time of 01:33:47
The Elite Women’s winner is Candice Lill who received a gold medal on the podium with a time of 01:47:15.
Samantha Sanders was second with a time of 02:03:18 and Elrika Harmzen-Pretorius received a bronze medal with a time of 02:03:40.
“We were honoured to have the current South African Marathon Champion, Philip Buys, and world-class XCO rider, Candice Lill, joining the race and both taking the title at King Price Trailseeker #4 Legends MX,” said Nortje.
“Despite the bad weather, we were still able to put smiles on riders’ faces as most riders told me they feel like kids playing in the mud,” added Nortje.
The King Price Trailseeker Series is the biggest mountain bike series worldwide and caters for both novice and professional athletes.
“We have six events across South Africa, two of which take place in the Western Cape and four in Gauteng,” said Nortje.
The King Price Trailseeker Series, renowned for its family-friendly, affordable and well-organised mountain bike events across various provinces, has joined hands with Schools Cycling South Africa to host the first Schools Cycling Introductory XCM Series.
Gauteng learners enter and compete against each other, and the school with the most points at the end of the school league takes the win.
In addition, the King Price Trailseeker Series also forms part of the Gauteng Provincial XCM Series, where top Gauteng riders across all age groups compete to earn their provincial colours subject to official selection criteria.
The series offers mountain bikers exceptional cycling experiences with various distances including 70km, 40km, 20km and 10km trails.
“Created by real mountain bikers for real mountain bikers. So, pick your route and awaken your inner adventurer,” said Nortje.
