Ronaldo Pringle wins senior division at rodeo in Bapsfontein

This was the 22nd rodeo held at the venue in collaboration with SA Rodeo.

A rodeo with the event of a bucking bull took place at Que Sera in Bapsfontein on Saturday, July 2.

A total of seven bull riders and bulls took part in this sporting event where locals gathered to support the cowboys.

This was the 22nd rodeo held at the venue in collaboration with SA Rodeo.

A highlight of the day was the winning bull, Red Heart, which participated for the first time as a senior bull.

Another bull, Freightliner, competed as a senior bull for the first time and was awarded an overall third place.

A well-known bull called Zulu clinched second place at the age of 10 years and has been competing for eight years.

“At an event, the bull’s and the rider’s scores are calculated out of 100.

Individual scores are just when one bull competes against another or if the bull is bucked with a dummy rider,” said arena director Marco Roux.

The senior bull riding winner was Ronaldo Pringle who managed to make the eight seconds twice.

“I don’t count my wins but I think it is the fifth time that I was able to walk away as the winner in my category.

“It takes long hours of preparation, therefore I am content and happy with the outcome,” said Pringle.

The second place in the senior riders’ category went to JJ Potgieter and Morné Liebbenberg achieved third place.

The junior bull riding winner was Werno Berington whose main focus at the age of 17 is to ride senior bulls.

South African rodeo legends are Rikus Rossouw, Willie Liebenberg, Kyle Liversedge and Casper Beukes to name a few.

“We have many legendary riders in South Africa, but because we don’t receive donations or support from our government, we aren’t able to take bull riding further. Hopefully next year we will be able to compete in international rodeo leagues alongside countries such as Mozambique and Namibia,” said organiser, Hachtor Beukes from SA Rodeo.

The bull senior judge was Johan De Bruin alongside rookie judges Martin Heystek and Jaco Jacobs.

The rodeo announcer and arena director was Marco Roux.
