More than 50 participants out of the blocks at parkrun in Standerton
The organisers asked the public not to use the old Paul Kruger Bridge during 8:00 to 9:00 on Saturday mornings, because of the danger to both motorists and athletes.
A total of 55 participants lined up on Saturday, July 23 at 8:00, waiting for the whistle to blow for the parkrun.
Run director Marjorie Uys, thanked Kasselman Security Services and Lekwa Clean Up Crew for cleaning the Standerton River Park.
Frans Vermaak and his faithful companion, Luka had the household up and about since 6:00, with Vermaak taking his dog for a short walk before the event began.
Five athletes improved their times and three participants joined for the first time.
Sifiso Siphamandla completed the 5km in a time of 19:40, followed by Jacques Ferreira in 20:48, a new personal best time.
Chula Phago, a first-timer, ended in 21:10, followed by Humbulani Ramau in 26:26, Mbuso Mazibuko in 26:41 and Part Jayram in 27:12.
Jayram reached the milestone of 50 parkruns and Priscilla Ramdharee of 100 parkruns.
Ishara Pillay, Jennifer Naidoo, Johannes Vosloo, Kay Pillay, Krishnalal Ramdharee, Lizette Jansen van Rensburg, Nitin Daya, Preyanka Dorasamy, Renette de Sousa, Ronnie Moodley, Ruwan Vermaak, Séan Jansen van Rensburg and Vanita Moodley were on their posts to facilitate a smooth event.
With the Meyerville Road in such a bad condition, some residents use shortcuts via the park to reach town.
