Dance school from Evander competes in international competition

Students of Julie-Ann School of Dance dance aboard the MSC Orchestra to the Poeme Island.

Fourteen Julie-Ann School of Dance (JSD) students recently competed in the MSC Oceanic Championship on the MSC Orchestra to Pomene Island.

Students obtained IFAA International Federation colours in their different styles of dance.

The International Federation colours are considered the highest honour a student can achieve in the dance association. They consider this an honorary colour in the dance association.

The IFAA South African team consisted of the best dancers of the IFAA in South Africa, as they were representing the IFAA on an international stage.


Julie-Ann School of Dance students who obtained positions in the disco section are Mia Grobler (second), Zeldeen Martins (first) and Penelope Mullineux (third).

JSD students who competed in the competition and also received their international championship colours are Lana te Water, Emma te Water, Zeldeen Martins, Juane Kluyts, Donna Scott, Klarabel Toerien, Carla van der Merwe, Imke Otto, Janica Grobler, Mia Grobler, Penelope Mullineux, Kayla Engels, Zoey Engels and Zoe Peacock.

JSD also achieved numerous first, second and third places in the disco, freestyle, contemporary, open, acrobatics and hip-hop competitions.

Imke Otto was awarded the best Oceanic International winner for disco, receiving the highest mark for the day.
