Acestes Taekwon-Do Clubs in Cullinan and Rayton reap medals

With 32 out of 35, Shiloah Groenewald achieved the highest score at the tournament.

The Cullinan and Rayton Taekwon-Do clubs recently participated in the 20th Tiny Tiger tournament as well as the fifth Avengers tournament.

The event took place on Saturday, July 2 and 44 participants from Cullinan and Rayton took part in the event, hosted by the Acestes Taekwon-Do Clubs (ATC).

Both the Tiny Tiger and Avengers tournaments ran simultaneously.

“The tournaments kicked off at 08:00 and finished at 17:00, which made it an exceptional long event due to the added activities of point and free sparing,” said Bsb Justin Collett.

All the participants competed in patterns, weapon patterns, point sparring, weapon sparring and continuous sparring.

They finished off the tournaments with special techniques, for instance kicking a board to break it at a set height and board breaking making use of different techniques.

The 20th Tiny Tiger tournament results are as follow: 17 participants from Cullinan competed and obtained 15 gold medals, a silver medal and a bronze medal. There were two competitors from Rayton and they managed to obtain a gold medal and a silver medal.

During the fifth Avengers tournament, 23 from Cullinan competed.

The competitors obtained 17 gold medals and six silver medals. Two participants from Rayton both obtained a silver medal.

“Thank you to the Cullinan Petra Mine for the use of their community sports centre, as well as NGA Earthworks and ACC for their sponsorship towards the event. Special thanks to Raine for manning the tuck shop for the day,” Collett added.

“Congratulations to all out participants and medal winners. Everyone did exceptionally well. The next tournament will take place on Saturday September 3,” Collett concluded.
