Parkrun in Standerton kicks off the New Year

71 people take part in the first event for 2026.

The Standerton Riverpark parkrun celebrated its 331st event on January 1, kicking off the new year with some fitness fun. Seventy-one runners took part in this event, and three set new personal bests to kick off the new year.

Steve Swanepoel finished the run with a time of 35:43 (PB).

Jannie Viljoen gained a new PB of 44:22. Mikayla Havenaar gained a new PB of 46:41.

The first known finisher at this event was Timothy Hoop (24:24), followed by Eugene Viljoen (24:38) and Zander van der Linde (25:59).

Petra van der Linde was the first female finisher, recording a time of 25:59.\

Pieter Grobbelaar completed the run with a time of 28:53.

Elmien Vermaak and her husky, Kira, completed this event in 34:51.

The Standerton Riverpark parkrun takes place every Saturday at 08:00 in the Standerton Riverpark.
