The Bronkhorstspruit District Hospital received 11 (-40oC) WHO-approved vaccine cold storage freezers, 45 vaccine carriers, 45 temperature loggers and 20 laptops on October 7.

“Sasol launched an integrated response to Covid-19 in 2020, which was extended into 2021, reprioritising our activities to ensure the stability and safety of our fence line communities and our employees. We recognise the need to support the Gauteng government’s vaccination rollout strategy by donating essential equipment and resources,” said Mr Rightwell Laxa, senior vice president of Sasol’s Sasolburg and Ekandustria operations.

Mr Laxa said since the declaration of Covid-19 as a pandemic in March last year, Sasol has produced and donated more than 1,6 million liters of alcohol-based sanitiser to frontline workers in hospitals, clinics, communities and local and national government.

Sasol also donated over 12 000 masks, 36 000 pairs of gloves and 5 000 safety suits and overalls towards frontline response efforts in its fence-line communities.

Sasol made a donation of a million liters of jet fuel to the Department of International Affairs for the repatriation of South Africans stranded abroad.

“We converted a number of our buildings into quarantine centres for employees and their families and converted our mobile science laboratories, usually used for school education programs, into Covid-19 screening and testing units.”

Furthermore, as a producer and bulk supplier of a variety of specialty chemicals, Sasol has also come up with a new unique blend of alcohol to be used in the manufacturing of hand-sanitisers to help address the increase in demand for these products in the market.
