Delmas Police Chief calls for collaboration

The aim of the Business Against Crime Forum in Delmas is to find practical solutions in the task of combating crime and protecting local businesses live hood from theft and robberies.

Due to increased crime in Delmas, a forum was formed by Delmas Police commander, Col Sipho Sithole.

Col Sithole asked for collaboration between local businesses, stakeholders in the security industry, law enforcement as well as the Delmas Police.

The Business Against Crime Forum was founded during a meeting held on Wednesday, October 20 at the Golf Course Park Office in Van der Walt Street in Delmas.

The meeting was attended by various stakeholders within the security industry in Delmas, as well as the Community Policing Forum, AfriForum Valke Neighbourhood Watch and other law enforcement partners in town.

The aim of the forum is to find practical solutions in the task of combating crime and protecting local businesses live hood from theft and robberies.

Col Sithole further advised the stakeholders about the recent crime tendencies in town, as well as the problem of the use of Nyope under some car guards and local residents which directly leads to theft and crime in order to sustain their drug habits.

Security solutions with the collaboration of the various stakeholders and practical plans to combat crime, were discussed.

Col Sithole also urged local business owners to sharpen up the security in and around their businesses.

Capt Simon Ramaditse Peteke from the Delmas Police and Mr Carel Botha from the AfriForum Valke Neighbourhood Watch.

Col Sithole gave an undertaking on behalf of the Delmas Police to swiftly respond to complaints of crime within the business sector, as well as to sharpen up patrols and visibility in town.

“We will place patrollers and patrol vehicles at strategic points and do effective patrols around town and at shopping malls,” Col Sithole said.

I thought of this forum as a way forward in which the police, the business owners and other stakeholders come up with practical resolutions to combat crime in our community.”
