Lucia says her aim is to help working moms
Many single mothers have to leave their children with neighbours and friends when they work night shift.
SECUNDA – Ms Lucia Mashaba turned her vision of caring for kids, into reality when she saw the many single mothers who have to leave their children with neighbours and friends when they work night shift.
The CEO of Little Harvard Day Care Centre is a B-Tech in Chemistry graduate from Vaal University and a former employee of Sasol.
With her knowledge of mathematics and science, she is able to help children in her day care with homework after school.
Ms Mashaba saw the need for opening a day care centre that will also accommodate parents who would like to leave their children overnight while they are working night shift.
She said most parents do not stay with their families in Secunda, because when they are supposed to work night shift, they experience problems as to where they are going to leave their children.
That was when she decided to open a 24 hours care centre, which is also open during school holidays and on weekends.
“Some people work on weekends and they do not know where to leave their kids.
“At times, one needs to attend a funeral and you cannot take the child to a funeral,” said Ms Mashaba.
Ms Mashaba said Little Harvard is fully registered and their menus are approved by health inspectors.
“I don’t know what I would do without this centre,” said a parent who leaves her child at the centre at night while she is working night shift.
Little Harvard Day Care Centre will be hosting a kids talent show on Saturday, 25 July.

Various activities, such as a beauty pageant, dancing and singing, will take place and parents will be taken through the centre.
