Rooikoppen taxi rank still not in use
The municipality is in the process of transferring the Rooikoppen taxi rank back to them.
The Rooikoppen taxi rank is not in use because it still belongs to the developer that bought it.
Commuters wait a long time on the road for taxis from town to take them to their destinations.
The rank has been vandalised and it was left in a terrible condition.
The Lekwa Municipality spent R10-million upgrading the facility and it was allegedly fraudulently sold for R100 000 to BHR Consulting.
The council agreed to sell the land, adjacent to the taxi rank, to a developer.
This land, that was supposed to be sold, was on the same property as the taxi rank.
They were supposed to divide the land into two portions, A and B, before selling, but this did not happen.
An addendum was added to the contract when the land was sold that the taxi rank will be transferred back to the municipality after the sale was completed.
It has been more than a year since this occurred, but the community still can’t use the taxi rank.
