Don’t miss the One Act Play festival in Secunda
Sancta will once again host thier One Act play festival in Secunda, bringing 15 plays by Mpumalanga artists to the stage.
SECUNDA – The South African National Community Theatre Association (Sancta) is having its 36th One-Act Play Festival at The Basement Theatre from 13 to 18 February.
Three plays will be performed each night at 6.30pm from Monday to Friday.
The gala awards evening that will be held on Saturday night, will begin at 6pm.
The gala awards evening will open with the three best plays of the week, followed by the nominations of the finalists and the awards ceremony.
All the plays performed in the week have been through a stringent mentoring course at the hands of Sanxta’s patrons, Ms Dorothy Ann Gould, Mr Michael Maxwell and Mr Swannie Swanevelder for the past couple of months.
The line up for the week is:
• Monday, 13 February:
Burial of Innocence by Siphokule Theatre (Piet Retief/Nkhondo);
Where is Conscience written and directed by Sakhile Lushaba (Piet Retief/ Nkondo);
Today written and directed by Sandile Manana (Kinross).
• Tuesday, 14 February:
I also can written and directed by Nkosi Njabulo (Badplaas);
Faith can move mountains written and directed by Bennet Manana – Dundonald (Badplaas region);
Broken Promise written and directed by Nkosinathi Shongwe – Mjama Drama (Tjarkastad).
• Wednesday, 15 February:
Foot of the Grave written and directed by Thabo Pholo (Delmas);
Confessions of the Past written and directed by Doctor Motaung (Standerton);
The Guitar written and directed by Enoch Makhule (Wakkerstroom).
• Thursday, 16 February:
TshimbilaRantsula written and directed by Gcebile Dhlamini – Outreach Foundation Hillbrow Theatre Group and Centurion College (Johannesburg);
The Zulu and the Indian (Romeo and Juliet) written by Nicholas Ndwandwe – Mzinoni Vision Theatre Productions (Bethal);
The Heart written and directed by Mandla Mnisi (Ermelo).
• Friday, 17 Febraury:
Find Her written by Nozipho Radebe and directed by Herbert Mokoena and Nkosinathi Mashiya – Sisonke Art Productions (Emalahleni/Witbank);
Child of a Child – Manzi Theatre Project (Pietermaritzburg);
All by Myself written and directed by Robert Scott – Protea Productions (Benoni).
There will be verbal adjudications each night by well-known people from the theatre industry.
The adjudicators will announce their top picks of the week on Friday night.
Tickets cost R30 per night and are available from Noel Mc Donald or Ms Thobile Mogale from the Department of Arts, Culture, Recreation and Sport.

A weekly ticket that will grant access to all nights except Saturday night, costs R100.
