Zwane invites you to watch the Madam Sarah musical play
“What inspired me to write this play was the fact that so many negative things are happening around us on a daily basis.”
Bheki (Nsimbi) Zwane introduces the Madam Sarah musical that will be on stage at the Johannes Stegmann Theatre.
Zwane is a well-known actor, writer, director and theatre producer who has worked with the internationally renowned South African playwright and theatre producer Mbongeni Ngema.
Madam Sarah focuses on what is happening in our country, including social ills such as fake pastors, human trafficking, women and children abuse and the high divorce rate.
“What inspired me to write this play, was the many negative things that are happening around us daily.
“People used to feel safe at home, at church and at work, but not anymore.
“Are these signs of the end times as mentioned in the Bible?”
Zwane added that people now spend a lot of time on trying to find solutions for their daily life struggles. Madam Sarah depicts a white woman who is accused by her husband of being married to her work and is not giving attention to her family.
The play also includes local artists, Zoliswa Delihlazo and Past Muzi Khumalo.
“People will realise that Delihlazo is not only a good gospel singer, but is an artist who is a brilliant actor as well.”
Delihlazo will be singing Jazz in the play.
The play is a two-hour English musical play and there is no age restriction.
It is on stage on 23 June at 7pm, on 24 June at 7pm and on 25 June at 3pm.
After showing in Secunda, it will proceed to eMalahleni and Mbombela.
Zwane said the only challenge he was faced with, was to get white people to play certain characters and those he managed to get, dropped him in the last hour.
Though he struggled to get white actors, he still believes there is great talent locally.
“I began acting in high school and moved to Gauteng after Grade 12 where I became an amateur actor before being recognized by uBaba Ngema.
“I had the opportunity to be part of most of his plays and also travelled worldwide with him.”
Zwane also played in the Lion of the East play which exposed the abuse of farm workers by white farmers in Bethal.
The play highlighted the impact of the potato boycott and the role played by the late Gert Sibande.
Zwane went through the whole process of auditions to be selected as a student of Mbongeni Ngema for six months before he could qualified to be an actor.
He learnt about acting, singing and dancing.
Working with Ngema helped him to understand everything about writing, composing, directing and acting.
He was honoured to have played in a multi-award winning struggle play last year that has been made into a movie and was written and directed by Ngema.
The movie Asinamali will be released soon.
It is a stage play that was written in 1983 and had a sold-out run at the Market Theatre before it appeared on Broadway in New York, and worldwide.
It won numerous awards.
Zwane also does voluntary drama teaching at Sasolia Primary School on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Some of his previous work include Life beyond Democracy and Rainbow Nation that was seen in professional theatres.
