Police and CPF patrol Trichardt over from Freedom Day to Workers’ Day
The condition of the vehicle astounded those who inspected it.
TRICHARDT – Members from the local police and Community Policing Forum kept up a visible presence in the town over the long weekend.
They did patrols every night from 26 April to 1 May. The group conducted various crime prevention actions, such as pulling over reckless drivers on the N17 highway and in town, patrolling the town borders for suspicious activities and trying to keep intoxicated people off the streets.
According to W/O Francois Strauss, no major incidents were reported over this time. An incident worth mentioning was an unroadworthy vehicle that was impounded on Tuesday night, 1 May.
W/O Strauss and Mr Clarke van der Walt, CPF chairman, pulled off the vehicle in town.
“We saw the VW GTi without a number plate swerving across the road and initially suspected the motorist was intoxicated,” Mr Van der Walt said.
The condition of the vehicle astounded those who inspected it. The steering wheel was missing, as well as most parts of the dash board, and a Weiss grip was used to veer the car into the right direction. The front windscreen was basically shattered. The driver said a friend was repairing his vehicle in eMbalenhle and he was testing it.
The owner was not intoxicated, but his vehicle was impounded.
