Many residents experience electricity outages

Electricity restored on Sunday evening after lightning struck pole

SECUNDA – Residents of Sunsetpark, Extention 22 and 23 and Trichardt experienced electricity outages for the second time this year after an electricity pole between Trichardt and Secunda was hit by lightning on Sunday.

The electricity was restored later on Sunday evening.

Residents in the area around Laerskool Kruinpark also experienced electricity problems on Monday, 7 January and according to Ms Mariaan Chamberlain, DA Councillor, this was due to the burnt pole.

However, when the team attended to the problem on Monday, they realised it was not only a switch, but that a part of the electrical cable burnt. The municipal workers could however not complete the work due to the heavy rain.

The team continued the restoration work on the pole on Tuesday morning.

Residents in Bethal also experienced electricity problems and Ms Marietjie Fourie, DA Coucillor kept residents informed on what is happening with the electricity.

She said there were many breakdowns after the heavy rain over the weekend and that the problems in some areas will be fixed in due time.
