Martin Vilakazi runs Comrades in under eight hours
The Correctional Services in Standerton also produced two athletes who finished the Comrades in good time.
Standerton cop, Martin Vilakazi, clinched a Bill Rowan medal at this year’s Comrades held on 9 June.
He finished the up run from Durban to Pietermaritzburg in a time of 7:55,31.
Vilakazi ran under the banner of the South African Police.
His teammate from Standerton, Jabulani Sithole, ran in the category for men between the ages of 40 and 49 years.
Sithole came in with just more than a half an hour to spare before the cut-off time of 12 hours.
His was a time of 11:25,12 for which he received a copper Vic Clapham medal.
The Standerton Marathon Club sent 16 runners to the Comrades this year.
Themba Mbatha was their fastest runner in a time of 8:07,57.
Hanerike Koekemoer (11:47,00) was the only Standerton woman to complete the 86km race.
The other finishers from Standerton Marathon Club are Richard Sangweni (9:05,44), Sfiso Ndinisa (9:53,15), Tshepo Raymond Nsibande (9:57,09), Oupa Mlangeni (10:13,18), Sipho Mngomezulu (10:55,59), Kenny Swart (11:16,12), Lekgotla Dhlamini (11:18,55), David Tshepo Wiseman Tsotetsi (11:32,03), May Mnisi (11:42,58), Mxolisi Masondo (11:53,43), Fanyana Amos Ndinisa (11:57,08), Barend Jacobus Koekemoer (11:58,10), Joseph Khumalo (11:58,22) and Quinton Roberts who made the cut-off in the nick of time in 11:59,26.

They are Seth Dhlamini (8:08,29) and Isaiah Dlamini (8:37,58).
Both were awarded with Bill Rowan medals.
