Woman appears in court for allegedly stabbing a man to death in eMbalenhle
Nomusa Hlatshwayo (34) will hear on July 1 if her bail application was successful.
The Evander Magistrate’s Court on June 24 postponed the bail application of Nomusa Hlatshwayo (34) to July 1 for a ruling.
Hlatshwayo is facing a murder charge following the death of Sinethemba Thomo (26), who was fatally stabbed in eMbalenhle on June 13.
It is alleged that on the day of the incident, Thomo was picked up from his home by a friend during the afternoon.
Later that night, community members alerted his family that he had been stabbed and had collapsed not far from his home.

Thomo was rushed to a local clinic before being transferred to Evander Hospital for emergency treatment, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Hlatshwayo was subsequently arrested and charged with murder. She first appeared before the Evander Magistrate’s Court on June 17, when the matter was postponed to June 24 for a formal bail application.
During the bail hearing, an affidavit from the investigating officer, Sergeant Pieter Ramutla, was presented to the court, opposing Hlatshwayo’s release on bail, citing concerns for her safety.
He told the court that residents of Extension 14 in eMbalenhle were angered by the alleged crime.

Community members also picketed outside the court in opposition to her release and submitted a petition to the court.
Hlatshwayo’s attorney argued that while the court could consider the community’s concerns, it should not be influenced by public opinion when making its decision.
The attorney submitted that the court should instead determine whether the interests of justice permit Hlatshwayo’s release on bail.
The matter was postponed to July 1 for the court’s decision on the bail application.
