KHS delivers the goods against Florries

Florida was taken aback, not expecting this level of play from the Krugersdorp team, and only started to recover in the second half.

Krugersdorp — Krugersdorp High School’s (KHS) first team delivered surprise after surprise during their clash against Hoërskool Florida’s second team on day two of the Best of the West Festival on Saturday.

KHS took to the field with determination and class to deliver a convincing 27–15 victory over the highly rated Florida team to the delight of their coaches and supporters alike.

Florida was taken aback, not expecting this level of play from the Krugersdorp team, and only started to recover in the second half. Although Florida threw the kitchen sink at KHS, it was too little, too late.

Spurred on by their early successes, the Krugersdorp team tightened up their defences, and with superior discipline and excited fans urging them on from the sidelines, KHS managed to keep Florida at bay.

In their eagerness to make up the points difference, Florida’s game in the second half was marred with handling errors, conceding penalties that cost them possession.

KHS made good use of these unforced errors, opting to go for the line-outs and slowing the pace of the game significantly.

This tactic worked wonders, and they were able to maintain their lead throughout, finishing with a stunning victory.

According to Florida coach Stefan Coetzee, his boys, despite their loss, showed heart right to the end.

“We managed to create a lot of opportunities. Unfortunately, we were unable to convert these into points.

“Nevertheless, I am satisfied with their overall performance. Each game is a new lesson, and we look forward to taking what we learn into our league, which is starting soon.”
