Boy critical after hit by taxi

Friends not sure what happened.

A boy believed to be 13 years old is in a critical condition after he was knocked down by a taxi on Long Road in Greymont on 2 September, according to ER24 Communications Manager Werner Vermaak.

When paramedics arrived on the scene they found the boy still lying in the road. He sustained serious head injuries as well as multiple fractures. Paramedics initiated Advanced Life Support treatment on the scene before he was rushed off to Helen Joseph Hospital for further care.

It is alleged that the boy, still in his school uniform, was walking with two other friends when the incident occurred. The two friends on the scene could not explain to paramedics what happened. Paramedics managed to get hold of the parents and they met up with the ER24 ambulance at the hospital.

According to paramedics on the scene the damage to the taxi was quite severe.

Metro police attended the incident.
