Over the past few weeks, the Grade Seven pupils of Maragon Private School in Ruimsig planned, organised and established their business ideas for the school’s annual Market Day. The pupils had the opportunity of acting as sole business owners or forming partnerships. On Thursday 29 August the school’s future young entrepreneurs showed off their skills. From early morning the school was a hive of activity and before long the sports field was transformed into a festive market. There was a Fear Factor stall, an ”Earn your drivers’ license” (with a gold cart) activity, a “Phatcake” boys stall, and loads of games. Thanks to the Phatcake boys, the Food Masters and the Food Shack nobody went hungry. There were prizes for the most original business idea and name, the best looking stall and the most well-organised stall.

Every year the Grade Sevens generously donate 10 percent of their profits to a charity. This year the money will be donated to the Durban Deep Santa Shoebox Project. Maragon marketer Belinda Espag thanked all the pupils, parents and teachers who contributed to the event’s success.
