King’s School performs well at Eco Challenge
POORTVIEW – Vehicles judged on account of safety and efficiency.
The King’s School West Rand took part in the Shell Eco Marathon during October and took second place at the end of the day.
King’s School communications manager Bronwyn Barnard said, “This challenge required that the school design and build an energy efficient vehicle according to strict safety requirements set by Shell.”
She added that the school had to complete against 13 other teams which included two universities from Nigeria. “The University of Johannesburg was our mentor and sponsor for this event and we have to thank them for all their advice and support.”
The teams had to completed on 25 and 26 October at the Kyalami Racetrack to test how efficient their cars were. “The teams had to complete to see who drove the most kilometres on the equivelent of one liter of fuel.”
She concluded, “Our pupils took second place at the end of the day and we took the award for the best safety awareness. Congratulations to our pupils for their hard work on this project.”
