Update: Progress protest gets violent

Petrol bombs hurled at police.

All hell broke loose last night when the protesters from Mahglangi informal settlement (Plots 8 and 10 on Progress Road) hurled petrol bombs (molotov cocktails) at the police and a Nyala caught fire.

Police men who were on the scene since Friday told the Record things went awry at around 9pm. Tyres were also burned and large chunks of the road were damaged.

Progress Road was still closed this morning.

The protesters are unhappy because they were promised houses two years ago by MEC for Housing, Dan Bovu.
