“Racist” facebook rant leads man to Human Rights Commission
SANDTON – A Sandton man is facing possible charges following alleged racist comments made on social media of a packed Durban beachfront.
A Sandton resident has been accused of making racists comments on a photo of a packed Durban beachfront the past weekend.
Ben Sasonof allegedly wrote a comment on the photo: “Eh eh Wena… must have smelt like the inside of Zuma’s asshole.”
Many Facebook users accused Sasonof of being racist and he lashed out on one of the commentators. He said, “So fuck you and your bf. Go suck on Zuma’s dirty, tyrant asshole if you love it so much.”
Sasonof further lashed out at a Mohammed Jameel Abdulla by calling him a monkey. “Mohammed Jameel Abdulla you’re a fuckin little idiot! Every person you tagged there is a friend of mine from school! I dated a black girls you fuckin idiot fuck! Stupid Monkey bastard you!”
The comments have since been removed from the photo and Sasonof’s profile has been deleted.
The South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) called on the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) to investigate the alleged racist comments.
Jabu Mahlangu, national spokesperson for SANCO said, “We wish to condemn in the strongest terms possible the alleged provocative insults which seek to rekindle racial hatred and polarise racial relations in our society.”
Mahlangu also called for criminal charges to be laid against Ben Sasonof.
The KwaZulu Natal branch of the ANCYL has said that they will explore their options regarding criminal charges.
Several attempts to contact the Gauteng branch of the ANCYL have proved unsuccessful.
