Arrows of Destiny accelerates the quality of education

Teaching and learning are made easy and exciting at Arrows of Destiny Christian Academy as pupils receive individual attention from their professional, loving teachers while studying at their own pace under supervision.

The school is situated at 7 Katjiepiering Street in Weltevreden Park.

The founder and principal of the institution, Jeanette Porter, dived deep into the rich history of the school and what the school offered.

“I’ve been the principal of Arrows of Destiny for 36 years. First [I was the principal] at Agapeland Nursery School where we train little ones to enjoy learning, and teach them about love for people and life,” said Porter.

She added that the academy was a school with a large heart where schoolchildren were recognised for their individual talents.

She compared the quality of education offered at Arrows to other schools.

“Education systems that have been somewhat unsuccessful in the past are failing dismally because they simply do not address the needs of individual learners, and that is what we do through a system called Accelerated Education Enterprise (AEE).”

The AEE is a learning solution used as a curriculum at the school.

The principal explained that the programme allowed children to achieve mastery learning (a method of instruction where the focus is on the role of feedback in learning), as they could only progress to the next section of work once they have fully comprehended the work at hand.

Each pace or tract of learning has a self-test followed by a more formal exam.

“They are constantly doing smaller exams for each subject throughout each term which eliminates the stress of getting to the end of the year and having to catch up so much work or having to spend hours of studying for each major exam.”

She added that each learner had to set daily goals so that they could stay focused to complete their set goals for the day.

“It is a highly motivated and rewarding system which includes Merit Shop and a Honour Roll for learners who have achieved certain milestones.

“Homework is minimal as students are expected to complete their work during school hours which leaves more leisure and family time. The school is run with various learning centres and each child has their own unique office space which prepares them for the workplace.

“This type of schooling is practised globally and allows learners to transit between countries with seamless ease as the workings of the system is the same worldwide.”

Melinkosi Kanengoni, who attends the academy said, “Basically what I like about school is the amazing teachers we have that give us individual attention. We also thoroughly enjoy the many different activities the school offers such as soccer, netball, softball, cricket, chess and drama.

“The highlight of our school is having a qualified art teacher where learning is made fun through a colourful experience. Our high-tech computer centre allows us to research our subjects and equips our students with the latest technology.”
