Esports Day brings learners together through technology and teamwork
Exciting matches, strategic gameplay and strong school spirit took centre stage as learners showcased their skills during a fun-filled Esports Day.
Curro Wilgeheuwel (Wilgies) learners enjoyed an action-packed Esports Day, creating an exciting atmosphere that celebrated gaming, collaboration and strategic thinking on July 25.
According to Curro Wilgie teacher Natasja Greeff, the event attracted learners from across the school, with some participants bringing friends to join in the experience. Teachers also attended to support the competitors.
“Esports is much more than just playing video games. It helps learners develop teamwork, communication, problem-solving, strategic thinking and quick decision-making. It also teaches discipline, resilience and good sportsmanship as learners learn to handle both victories and defeats,” Greeff said.
One of the standout moments of the day was seeing learners from different grades unite in support of one another.
“Beyond the excitement of the competition, the event reinforced the school’s commitment to providing inclusive opportunities for learners with diverse interests. Organisers believe Esports help foster a sense of belonging while preparing learners for an increasingly technology-driven world,” Greeff added.
